four must-have herbs for hedgewitches

Lavender

If you are just beginning with witchcraft and want to work with herbs, this is the herb you should start with.  Of course, you can buy lavender plants but it is so easy to grow your own and I highly recommend doing this. See below for where you can get seeds.

Good for-

  • Healing
  • love
  • sleep—see how to make your own sleep spray here.
  • wisdom
  • tranquillity
  • protection

Roses

I have a few roses growing in my garden; I discuss more about them in the main post on roses. You can buy ready-dried rose petals; try these.

Of course, roses are traditionally seen to symbolise love and romance, so yes, they are great for any love magic.  However, they have so many more uses than that!

Rose colours and their uses for spells and rituals

  • Red: romance, love, passion, and divination.
  • Pink: gratitude, friendship, self-love, happiness, and compassion
  • White: peace, clarity, purity, innocence, silence, sympathy
  • Yellow: happiness, friendship, joy,
  • Orange: energy, desire
  • Purple: enchantment and mystery.

Bay leaf

I get a bag of dried bay leaves from here.

Good to use in rituals for:

  • Protection
  • Psychic ability
  • Purification and cleansing.
  • Divination
  • Wisdom
  • Strength
  • Prosperity and money spells.

Mugwort

Fresh artemisia vulgaris – mugwort

I am currently trying to grow my own mugwort; we will see how that goes! See below to find out where I get the majority of my seeds. Or you can get them ready-dried; try these.

For hedgeriding, I recommend Pagan Portals-Hedge Riding by  Harmonia Saille. But do read her first book, Pagan Portals: Hedge Witchcraft. Both books are beautifully written and easy to follow.
